Back In Blighty Again
Connecting with my roots ...

Here I am, back in Blighty again. Unfortunately, the area I was staying in, in Australia, had virtually non-existent WiFi and I had to borrow a laptop as well! It is good to be back, not only for the green buds on the trees, but for the fact that I can spend some time in my study working on my sagas again ...
i really love the cover of my new book "her hearts desire"
This morning I took delivery of another batch of "Her Heart's Desire" and I would buy it for the book cover alone, if not for the content. It is the prettiest cover of all my books.
The story tells of Lily, a spoilt and petted Victorian young lady, who wants for nothing. She's a bit of an airhead in modern day language, who is looking for a wealthy husband. She is pursued by Charlie though; a shipyard worker and, of course, in those days a courtship from a common man would never do.
Charlie is bereft when his beloved spurns him and he marries a cruel and manipulative woman called Mary instead. Lily marries well. She becomes Lily De Crosland, wife of a military man.
My sagas are based on characters who were part of my ancestry. I love to look at my family tree and pluck a person from it. Lily is a character born in Victorian times and although there were many siblings in her family, she wasn't as spoilt as I made her out to be. She just served the purpose to make up my story.
As I write this, I can compare Lily with the young women of our modern day. What are their hopes and aspirations? Certainly not marriage to a wealthy man. Well, perhaps there are some, but most young women aspire now to a good career, a nice house, foreign holidays and a happy partnership to sustain them through their years. But things can go wrong, just as they did for Lily and how would our youngsters cope if it wasn't for the welfare state or their parents' generosity.
Lily had neither crutches as the years went by and it was up to her to create a survival plan. We've all had times in our lives when our chin hits the ground and we fear we will never recover from it, but we usually do, as the human race is very resilient.
So if you would like to have a look at my beautiful book cover or even read the saga, visit Amazon to download the Kindle edition or visit my online shop if you'd like to order online.
Until next time ...
Since arriving back in the U.K I have enjoyed meeting lots of people at the Author Talks and book signing events that I have been invited to. It has been great connecting with my roots again and listening to other people's stories whilst I have been doing research for my next book.
A big thank you to all the readers who have posted Amazon reviews after they have finished one of my books.
