About My Book: Shattered Dreams

Set on the battlefields of Europe during World War II ...

Shattered Dreams is the continuing saga of the Dockerty family based on a manuscript left by my mother when she died. Set during World War II, the story is about a simple soldier and his journey through the battlefields of Europe ...

An extract from my book:

"Irene's heart thudded against her chest. That morning, she had read about the civilians in occupied countries who were being massacred by artillery, tanks and aircraft, as they fled ahead of the ruthless German war machine.

War had been declared and literature had been sent to each and every household throughout the country, informing people of what to do in the event of an air raid ... but somehow, it didn't sink in."

Shattered Dreams tells the story of a young couple's hopes for their future, only to have them shattered at the onset of World War II. Most of the story is written from the experiences of an ordinary soldier and his endeavours to stay alive, whilst battles raged all around him and many of his comrades were killed.

My father returned to Civvy Street a changed and stricken man. It was a land that was certainly not fit for heroes. The country still faced rationing, there was mass unemployment and a huge amount of money was owed to the U.S.A - all at the expense of the country's younger generation, many of whom hadn't survived to make Britain great again.

In this year of remembering the end of the Second World War, we should be counting our blessings and always endeavour to honour our fallen heroes by keeping the peace around the world.
