About My Book: Her Heart's Desire
A tender romance ...

When I was a little girl, my Granny would sometimes come to live with us. She liked to sit me down and tell me about her family. She was one of many children, from a family of thirteen if I remember correctly ...
Although Granny couldn't always remember, we would count all the names on our fingers. We used to get to about six or seven names and then would forget and we would have to start again.
"Born into a Victorian family, in a place called Rock Ferry near the River Mersey, she fell in love with her second cousin, who was a seafaring man!"
One Sunday afternoon, just after she had turned eighteen, there was to be an announcement to the family by Grandmama, the Matriarch of her family. Everyone had to attend and hoping that this announcement might be a betrothal between her and her second cousin, my granny spent many hours that morning getting ready.
Wearing her best dress, a little powder on her flushed, excited face and a pearl necklace that she had received from her parents for her birthday, she made a grand entrance into the drawing room later that day.
In a room full of her many sisters, parents and aunties, she saw her beloved. With a pounding heart and lots of pleasant thoughts regarding their future, she began to walk towards this handsome mariner, his hand outstretched towards her in a welcoming gesture.
"But wait! Who else was walking towards him with a big smile on her face? Her older sister!"
Granny was heartbroken and she never forgot that day. She carried a crush for her new brother-in-law for many, many years. Poor Granny, God bless her.
